4 ways to help shelter dogs for National Dog Day

Here are 4 great ways to help shelter dogs for National Dog Day!

  1. Adopt don’t shop! Every year an estimated 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized. While CCHS is a no-kill shelter, when we adopt out most of our dogs we are able to transport in dogs from kill shelters, thus saving each of those dogs lives and making room for another dog!
  2. Volunteer for CCHS. Dog walking is available when we are open up to a half hour before closing. Sometimes we also have other opportunities for volunteering such as mowing the lawn, raking leaves in the fall, or shoveling snow. We also often need volunteers to return donated cans and bottles.
  3. Spread the word. Share dogs up for adoption on your social media. Share information about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets. Help spread the world about making sure your dog is always leashed when they are not in your yard. It is Michigan law after all. There is a lot of good (and bad) information about taking the best care of your dog, so make sure you do your research before educating people on important animal causes.
  4. Donate. Monetary donations are always appreciated and can be made online here. You can also donate items on our wish list such as durable leashes. There are also a few other ways you can donate without spending additional money such as donating your Econo Foods receipts. We get 1% of the money from all the receipts we turn in. You can also set up CCHS as your charity on Amazon Smile them making sure to use Amazon Smile whenever you shop on Amazon. You can find more information on Amazon Smile here.
