Volunteers are the Cornerstone of CCHS
The Copper Country Humane Society sincerely appreciates your interest in
volunteering to help animals in our community. Volunteers are a vital part of
CCHS due to the large number of animals in need of help. Without
volunteers
CCHS could not begin to help over 800 cats and dogs each year. Many of
these animals would be left abandoned with no shelter, food or medical needs
and would die of starvation or suffer deaths worse than that. There are many
ways to help animals and we are always in need of new volunteers.
Would you volunteer a couple hours a week or a few hours a month? If any
of the opportunities listed below interest you and you would like more
information CCHS906-487-9560 for assistance:
Volunteer Opportunities
Shelter Activities - We are in great need of
transporters
Have car, will travel? Stray dogs and cats are often in need of medical
attention
and sterilization and we must rely on volunteers to transport a pet to and from
the veterinarian’s office for care. Beth 482-4773 LeRita 524-6353 Sue 353-7635
"They call me Mellow Yellow…" Socializing and comforting scared,
stressed animals is vital to their quality of life and adoptability. Our new
facility
has some great spaces to spend quality one on one time with an animal that needs
some special attention.
Cats got your fancy? Imagine spending an afternoon playing with a group
of
feline friends in a jungle gym built just for cats! You can, in Arne's Cat House
at the new shelter.
Strut that mutt! Walking dogs and helping with basic obedience is
rewarding
and fun for both the volunteer and the dogs. Added bonus…the trails surrounding
the shelter are beautiful!
"Dahling, you look mah-velous." Help give shelter animals more "curb
appeal"
by bathing or brushing them. Our new shelter even has a dog shower!
Swab the decks! Volunteers are always welcomed to help with laundry or
assist
with cleaning. Our new shelter was specially designed with ease of cleaning in
mind, so this can be a rewarding (and some might say relaxing!) task.
Say cheese! Having a good-quality digital photo of each animal at the
shelter
available helps tremendously with our efforts to find "forever homes" for them.
If you have a digital camera, please consider this volunteer activity.
Especially
when taking photos of the dogs it is helpful to have an assistant, so this is a
great
way for friends to volunteer together. LeRita 524-6353
Fundraising
Money…that necessary evil! Help with (or lead!) one of the many fundraising
activities we do each year. Holiday gift wrapping, pet photos with Santa,
rummage sales, flower sales, and can drives are just some examples.

Volunteer From Home!
Are you a phone person? Each unaltered dog or cat that leaves our shelter
must be sterilized within one month of adoption (or when old enough). This is
the
key to reducing the number of unwanted animals in our community. Volunteers are
needed to contact people who have adopted pets and confirm that their new pet
has had the requisite surgery. It is also a great opportunity to check in and
ask how
things are going, and to hear some heartwarming stories about the pet's first
few
weeks in his or her new home.
Become a foster pet-parent… Often young puppies and kittens are abandoned
and need care but are too young to be at the shelter. Scared, elderly, sick or
injured animals may also require a quiet place to rebound and recover away
from the busy shelter. Volunteers can play a vital role by caring for these
animals
in their home temporarily. A short-term commitment of care can mean so much
to a very young, sick or injured animal. Lindsay 487-9560
Professional Services
Occasionally we have a need for professional advice in the areas of
accounting,
law, animal care
or grant writing. Would you consider volunteering your expertise?
To get involved with any of the above activities please either call
the contact person
listed or stop by the shelter during open hours for further direction.
Thank
you for your interest!
